The magic power of the ex-Voto,

A drinking cup –

Peacherino,

a divine gift from the land of Benito!

A dictator high up!

Did Menelik and the Italians felt,

As if enemies at each other’s throat,

Or friends  in cahoots,

To execute a plot?

 Make no mistake,

There was no such a thing random,

The both were working in tandem,

One focused  on land conquest

The other on destroying Tigrayan mind,

So that its somatic to arrest.

In dismay,

I have to say

Their plot succeeded all the way.

Tigray was brought down

From the seat of the throne

To a pindan dust blown.

In retrospect,

I Would have  felt comfort

If Tigray was confronted

By Napoleon Bonaparte instead,

Much better if it were were by Czar Alexander,

Still, his cognominal Byzantine leader;

Or Constantine, that of the Roman Empire.

Then if Kaleab were to come back

In grace he would accept the defeat

As he would have know the might

Those ancient giants

Could have summoned at last

The antiquity land of his to blast.

And laid it to dust.

My heart though bleeds

When a mighty nation that

Was in the lead:

One of the four in the league;

Marching a full speed,

Displaying its majestic deeds

Was brought to oblivion

By none other than a stool pigeon.

It had to fall  a victim,

To a second rate schlockmeister,

A villain and a traitor,

Who sold the people

And their nation;

Bric-à-brac in return.

He felt envious and threatened by

If great Tigray were United to stay,

Without a traitor’s gainsay.

He thus conveyed a tryst

Under the cover of Wuchale/ውጫሌ xyst,

With a fascist.

Blood then was to be shed,

Flesh splayed

And flayed;

Productive organs spayed

So mother Nation would remain barren and dry

For years to come by,

Mission to satisfy

Once and for  good to slay

Ancient Tigray!

What did he then get in return,

From the alien fascist  friend?

A few sucks of Maria Theresa sliver coins

And  a handful arquebus guns;

To suppress aliens

So as to keep safe his throne.

But the most insidious gain,

Came not from the possession of the guns,

Nor it did from  the riches of the silver coins

But from a trinket so small,

With a mugshot image  of a male Head covered with wimple

To hide his shortfall,

Previous  regents

Showed off

Cornrows

A potent Hallmark

To claim the seat of a monarch,

He was not endowed a poor Menelik.

This trinket, designed by the fascist,

Bestowed to his vassal complicit,

Was and still is itched

In the minds

Of ever man  woman;

Every child,

Be an adult or the old.

A trinket so vital

With a message subliminal,

To uttering the name of a criminal

In a single day several:

You name it:

To drink water,

A local bear

Or measure cereals

To buy or sell!

Alas, the man became eternal,

Preternatural!

Such was a psychological warfare

The Tigrayans have come  under.

With this metallic cup much less  with a stein.

In a Tigrian mind

The Amharas’ power grip kept sustained.

  1. We cannot keep on blaming one man while we ourselves have recycled his project. TPLF recycled that project. So we must blame not to read history and not to repeat history. TPLF wanted to unite us with Amhara, but not with Tegarus win the fake Eritrea? How can you unite with people who have different culture, psychology and culture, but not unite with their blood line? Do we still blame the dead man while we ourselves recycled the same agenda and we went to sit in Addis Ababa? What TPLF did was a miscarriage of justice. We must at least fix it now and stop blaming Menelick from generation to another generation. Even a hen does not lay its egg in a neighbors house, but TPLF did it.

  2. Let alone a poem that is a foot long, you can compose one that is a mile long. Still Tigray will never rise again. It’s been bombed into the Stone Age. Its’ people beggars of foreign aid for food and medicine. It was the incompetence of Yohanne the desert hyena who handed over Eritrea to the Italians and betrayed Theodros for a bag of coins and weapons. Weapons which he turned on Ethiopians on his quest to subjugate the Amharas. It was the Gojjames that named Yohannes’ troops “Neftegna” when they flooded into Amhara lands to pillage and plunder, similar to what they did in the 2020 – 2022. (Now the Galas call the Amharas “Neftegna” an Amharic word. Imbeciles.) With nearly 10% of the Tigrayan population dead, the rest reduced to beggary and banditry the bones of the Axumites would cringe to see the anbetas of Yohannes scavenging on the carcass of their dead brethern. Tigray has fallen and turned to ash. Never to rise again.

    1. What you said is honest and truth. you have bombed Tigray to ashes. Very honest, but Tigreans still not able to wake up. Pure curse is no where in the world but only in Tigray. The Tigray leadership is a pure curse. But mark words, we will rise again not to the level of Ethiopia, but above the level of any nation on the planet. You will not like this, but it will happen in your life span. Tigray will rise to the stars. But I appreciate your honestly on what told us here. Cursed is the leadership of Tigary

  3. I don’t understand when people start History of Ethiopia from Menelik. Please go back and read the History of the Country. If you are interested on the Modern History of the Country the common place to start is from the end the time of the Princes. Who ended that time and started the Modern History is Kink Tewodros II. Then you would have a good understanding of the way power transfers from different kings to become King of Kings as Yohanes IV and Menelik II.
    I understand Tigray and Oromo Nationalists want to demonize Menelik to motivate their Ethnic based but to me it is a backward strategy. Let us learn from History to make our Today and Tomorrow better. Let’s teach the future generation harmony not division.

    1. There was never a country called Ethiopia before Menelick. The real Ethiopia refers to the historical, old kingdom of Ethiopia which refers to Meroe and Nubia kingdoms. This Ethiopia never existed in history. The rest lies on lies.

      1. What is a lie is what you are posting. If you were a learned person or one who reads and is capable of critical thinking, you would have known that all nations on this planet are not the same they were 100, 200, 300 years ago. Nations evolve. Societies are dynamic. Wars change societies and borders. But what has remained constant for all nations, be it the UK, France, the USA, etc. that they existed in one form or another throughout the centuries. Without having to use very old and complex nations, If you take the USA for example, when the USA declared independence from the British, it was a collection of 13 colonies that hugged the east coast of what is the United States today that established the nation and wrote the Constitution that is still in use today. But today, over 200 years later, the USA is a nation of 50 states, plus territories spanning from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean and even as far north as near the North Pole to include Alaska. Using your logic are you going to argue the USA is only 50 years old? Only a Banda, a whore of Egypt would think Ethiopia did not exist before 100 years ago. The Gala invaded Ethiopia in 1522 when they saw a weakened state after the wars against the muslims. They drove their cattle and took over land that was not theirs and yet today, they claim “Oromia”. Little do they know that they’re opening a pandoras box they will not be able to close. There may come a time the Amhara will demand all their stolen lands back and order the Gala to go back to where they came from.
